THROUGH THE EYES OF THE ARTIST
Duration: 1 hour and 45 minutes
Suitable for: Primary school – 3rd, 4th and 5th grades
How many stories of children, how many characters we have met through Letizia’s drawings! We will carefully examine the characters, paying attention to how the artist wished to illustrate them. There are discerning eyes, red cheeks, tangled hair, an upturned nose… How then would you sketch yourself or your best friend?
We experiment with the art of getting to knowing each other through the creation of a portrait or a self-portrait… Being faithful to the original subject is not the focus, but rather learning how to express a characterising element: the smile, the gaze through which the person communicates his or her character, their mood.
To be inspired and learn the techniques, we will look at a collection of famous portraits together, before then trying to change the essential features of the face such as the eyes, the mouth or the nose, with results that are truly amazing and fun!
Hence, we will try to compose a large class portrait. Later, you can have mum, dad and even grandparents pose for you… everyone will become a work of art, given that each of us is unique and unrepeatable.
EXECUTION
The experience includes a guided tour of the 210 original images by Letizia Galli illustrating the 12 stories of Stories of Children, to get to know the many protagonists: Agata Smeralda, Abdou, Willy, Sara and Pietro… and their exciting stories. At the end there will be time dedicated entirely to creativity.
