The educational activities designed for the Stories of Children exhibition are inspired by the positive messages offered by the tales told and illustrated by the artist Letizia Galli and intend to activate, in the young and old alike, special sensors for learning more about others and themselves, to appreciate everyday things, with a positive and hopeful outlook regarding life events.

We will delve into many stories regarding children, reading them together, taking a close look in order to decipher the expressive codes of graphic communication and then… have space for the expression of each individual in producing new images, new texts on real or invented or personal stories… to be recounted and shared.

KINDERGARTEN AND PRIMARY SCHOOL CLASSES – 1st AND 2nd GRADE CLASSES

RE-CREATIVITY

We will have fun re-creating the tales illustrated by Letizia with regards to the feelings of love, union and affection through a simplified language of symbols that have always been used as a visual means of communication in art.

OBJECTS IN MY HOME

We will pause to consider what it is that binds us to someone we hold dear: an object, an animal, a book, something sweet… these elements will be drawn by each participant on big playing cards that will then be shuffled and re-found. Nothing will be lost at this point, rather everything will be re-joined to form a beautiful game of memory and stories to tell.

THROUGH THE EYES OF THE ARTIST *

So many stories about children, so many characters! We will carefully examine the characters, paying attention to how the artist wanted to illustrate them. And how would you draw them? How would you draw your best friend? We experiment with the art of knowing one’s self through the creation of a portrait or a self-portrait. We’re going to need a mirror for this!

MUSIC AND SOUND WITH WILLY

The magic ear of Willy reaches Venice and, next to the Santa Maria della Pietà, is able to hear the sounds that have been trapped over time amidst the stones of Venice. We will follow along on an exciting journey.

HOW AN ILLUSTRATED BOOK COMES ABOUT *

The original Stories of Children’s storyboards will be studied specifically in terms of the relationship between content and textual and illustrative composition. Next will be the workshop phase focusing on understanding how an illustrated story is born. The artist herself, Letizia Galli, will unveil the secrets of this art! We will watch as her hand bring the characters to life, positions them on the paper and within a scene, before then dressing them, colouring them in, and uniting them with the words. No doubt, everyone will want to have a go! We will illustrate the Stories of Children in Venice too.

AGATA… AND THEN

During the visit to the exhibition, the reading of the stories will serve to establish a dialogic workshop, together with the students, focusing on social issues that emerge also in relation to the cultural context of the Institute of the Pietà and the city of Venice. Depending on the cultural focus of the visiting class, a variety of focal points can be chosen, upon which to open the dialogue and seek out our Agata of today.
